Carole Ware Ulmer

Carole Ware Ulmer, 85, of Goshen, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021, at home surrounded by family.

She was born July 10, 1936, in Newport, Kentucky to James and Beulah (Hogan) Shields.  She was raised by Ray and Alice DeVaney in Indianapolis.

On August 16, 1968, she married John D. Ulmer in Goshen.  He survives along with the four children they raised together, Natalie (Barney) Beer and J. Christopher (Terri) Ulmer, both of Goshen, Greta Spencer of Casper, Wyoming, and Kathleen (Thomas) Bear of Madison; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Carole obtained her bachelor's degree through Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing and Goshen College and her master’s degree from Indiana University.

Carole shaped many young lives as the director of Good Shepherd School from 1977-1987.  She also served on the Goshen Hospital Board, the Goshen Library Board, and Trinity Lutheran Church Board.  Her strong Christian faith sustained her throughout her life. Carole was also a member of the Goshen Library Club and Maplecrest Country Club.

Carole was an avid traveler with a keen interest in exploring new places and learning about the world around her.  Some of her favorite destinations included Morocco and Paris, in addition to family trips to the North Carolina beaches.

Carole loved the farm where she and John lived for over 50 years.  They loved being outside together, watching the wildlife and she spent many hours tending to her beautiful flower beds.

Carole was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Friends may call Thursday, October 28,2021, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 1 p.m., Friday, October 29, funeral service at Faith Lutheran Church, Goshen.

Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery.
