Carol Lee Miller, 88 years old, of Goshen, Indiana passed away on the evening of January 5, 2023.
Carol Lee (Orr) was born in Kosciusko County, Indiana on January 19, 1934 to Leslie and Dora (Tuttle) Orr. She attended Pierceton High School, where she was Salutatorian of her class, then attended Manchester College, where she earned her teaching degree, going on to instruct High School Debate and English. Later she was head of Public Relations for Caylor-Nickel Clinic in Bluffton, Indiana and also worked for United Way and the Nappanee, Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Lee Steckbeck, in June of 1956. Over the next 11 years, they welcomed three adored children into their home in Bluffton, Indiana. Carol rarely missed attending any activity her children participated in. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister. She was also active in volunteering for Tri Kappa and Bridge Club. She enjoyed entertaining and was a warm hostess.
Carol Lee was predeceased by her second husband of 25 years, Dr. James “Jim” Carl Miller. During their long, happy marriage, Carol and Jim welcomed five grandchildren. Carol was also blessed to add an adult stepson, Jim (Nancy) Miller III, to the family. Carol and Jim were long time members of the United Methodist Church in Nappanee, Indiana. They moved from Nappanee to Greencroft, Juniper Place in Goshen in 2002.
Family was of paramount importance to Carol. She was an avid bridge and card player. She loved to read, watch IU basketball and Chicago Cubs baseball, and write letters to friends and family with her beautiful handwriting. She was known by family and friends to be a gracious, classy, independent and stylish lady. She will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered.
Carol Lee leaves to cherish her precious memories, her children, Leslie (Dave) Noble of Rockwall, Texas, Lisa (Ben) Raney of Atlanta, Georgia and Tad (Kim) Steckbeck of Bluffton, Indiana; her grandchildren, Chad (Caitlin), John, and Nick (Danielle) Noble, Patrick (Alexa) Steckbeck and Katie (Grahm) Smith; and her great-grandchild, Soldier Smith.
There will be no funeral or service as requested by Carol. Special thanks to her loving caregivers at Karing Hearts – Kim, Miriam and Carmen.
