Carol Sue (Helmuth) Honderich, Goshen, passed away July 24, 2025 at Goshen Hospital.

She was born on March 27, 1950, in Goshen to Joseph G. and Mary (Miller) Helmuth.  She married Martin Honderich on June 27, 1970, in Elkhart at Belmont Mennonite Church.

Carol is survived by her husband, Martin; three children; Matthew Q. Honderich, Mary P. Honderich, and Michael L. Honderich, all of Goshen; a granddaughter, Jen Honderich; and three sisters, Dee (John) Birkey, Goshen, Anita (Eli) Showalter, Pittsburgh, PA, and Elaine Jarvis, Goshen.

Many will remember Carol as being a Master Quilter. She was a founder of a local quilting guild called Maple Leaf Quilters. For several years Carol taught online classes called “Women of the Bible.” Not only was this a quilt construction class but also a Bible study, which encouraged other women to branch off and lead similar studies. The original quilt—designed and constructed during these weekly Bible studies —has traveled across the US and is now stored with the Mennonite Historical Library collection, Goshen College.

Her love of quilting also led her to Mongolia, where she taught women of that region the art of quilt making.

Carol also furthered her education later in her life and received a Bachelor’s degree from Goshen College in Organizational Management.  She worked at Oaklawn early in her career, and then later worked for Mennonite Mission Network, formerly, Mennonite Board of Missions, in the advertising department.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, August 1, from 5-7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, at Prairie Street Mennonite Church, 1316 Prairie Street Elkhart, IN 46516.

Memorial contributions may be given to Mennonite Mission Network.
