Carmen J. Black, 83, of Goshen, passed away early Friday morning, November 17, 2023, at Greencroft Healthcare.

She was born October 18, 1940, in Shelby, Michigan, to Ernest Wayne and Dorothy (Burmeister) Simonson.

She met Colon Black at a high school dance, and it was love at first sight.  They were married on August 23, 1958, in Whitehall, Michigan.

Colon survives along with four children, Kenneth (Joan) Black, Bella Vista, California, Jerry Black and Amy Black, both of Elkhart and Michael (Angela) Black, Goshen; a granddaughter, Alicia Black, Elkhart and a brother, Larry (Judith) Simonson, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

A 1958 graduate of Muskegon High School, Carmen was former secretary/treasurer of B&S Products, Corporation.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, gardening and cooking.  She had played the accordion with an all accordion Mishawaka band.

Visitation will be Sunday, November19, 2023,  from 4 p.m. until the 6 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Rev. Terry Tyler will officiate.

Burial will be Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 12, noon in Oakhurst Cemetery, Whitehall, Michigan.

Memorial donations may be given to Samaritan’s Purse.
