Carlton O. Leonard

Carlton O. Leonard, 84, of Goshen, died Tuesday evening, May 27, 2008, at The Maples in Goshen.  He had been at the hospital the past 16 days. He was born in Goshen, on August 28, 1923, to Ora and Cora (Aust) Leonard.  Mr. Leonard retired in 1988 from Indiana Trailer Supply in Elkhart where he worked as a shipping clerk.  He served in the Army Air Force during World War II from 1942 to 1945.  He graduated from Goshen High School in 1941.  He was a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren, Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Goshen. He is survived by a son, Gary Leonard of Elkhart; three daughters, Connie Penland of Elkhart, Becky (Jim) Hoogenboom of Tucson, Arizona, and Carla (Jim) Cobb of Goshen; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Max (Shirley) Leonard of Goshen; and two sisters, Donna Geyer of Colorado and Audrey (Frank) Hartman of Valparaiso, Indiana. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Teresa Ann Penland and a son-in-law, Bud Penland. Friends may call 12 to 2 and 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, June 1, at the funeral home. A Monday, June 2, 2008, funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Rev. Jim Hoogenboom, son-in-law, will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
