Carla Sue Oplinger, 59, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 18, 2023. She was born on March 11, 1963 in Goshen, Indiana, the daughter of the late Robert and Winnie (Melancon) Covington. Carla leaves behind her high school sweetheart and loving husband, Dan, of 38 years; her son Matthew (Lorena) Oplinger of Warsaw; her daughter Rachel (Jacob) Hartman of Winterville, GA; her sisters; Lynn (James) Smith of Beverly Hills, FL, Cindy (Roger, deceased) Woods of Elkhart, and Connie (Fred) Jacober of Genoa, IL; and her four grandchildren, Natalie and Nathaniel Oplinger, and Aiden and Brinley Hartman.
Carla and Dan both graduated from Goshen High School in 1981. She received an Associate's degree in Computer Programming and Accounting. Through the years she has worked at financial institutions including: Salem Bank, Midwest Commerce and has been employed by Interra Credit Union for the past 28 years in the Accounting, Quality Control and Accounts Operations Specialist Departments.
She was an active member of Sugar Grove Church, since 2018 and previously at First Baptist Church of Elkhart for over 35 years. Carla and her husband have been involved in many ministries including: life group leaders, the counseling team, the prayer team, the visitation team, Revive Indiana and the Annual Christmas Ladies Tea. She also volunteered and loved working with the ladies at SPA Ministries.
Carla enjoyed reading many Christian books that would help in counseling others. She was known for making beautiful cards and favors for every occasion. She loved her Lord and her family with all of her heart.
Family will receive friends on Friday, February 24 from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday, February 25 from 9-10 a.m. at Sugar Grove Church, 58512 Old County Road 17, Goshen, IN 46528. The Celebration of Life Ceremony will follow visitation Saturday, February 25 at 10 a.m. at the church.
Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
