Carl Shaffer, 60, of Goshen, died Monday morning, October 7, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born January 21, 1953 in Elkhart, to Melvin and Nancy (Helmuth) Shaffer. In 1975, he married Melody Howk in Goshen. She survives along with his mother Nancy; two daughters, Courtney Shaffer, of Elkhart, and Amanda (Imants) Jaunarajs, of Athens, Ohio; four grandchildren, Tyler Kucala, Brady, Austin, and Lexi Jaunarajs; and a sister, Elaine Taylor, of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Shaffer served in the U.S. Marines for three years in Vietnam. He worked in the shipping department for Syndicate Systems, and was an avid bowler in the area for many years. His four grandchildren held a special place in his heart, he loved them dearly. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where an 11 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2013 funeral with military honors will be held. Rev. Steve Thomas will officiate. Following the funeral cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory. Memorial contributions may be directed to Center for Healing and Hope, or CCU Staff, Elkhart General Hospital.
