Carl E. Reiner

Carl E. Reiner, 78, of Goshen, died late Friday afternoon, December 15, 2006. at Goshen General Hospital where he had been ten days.   He was born in Elkhart, Indiana, on May 2, 1928, to John and Marie (Helbling) Reiner.  He married Patricia A. Miller in Muncie, Indiana, on December 29, 1951.  She survives.   A 1946 graduate of Concord High School, he went on the Ball State University where he earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree.  Mr. Reiner taught math and was a guidance counselor at Goshen High School for almost 40 years, retiring in 1990.   A resident of the area the past 50 years, he was a 50 year member of the First United Church of Christ and a charter member of Maplecrest Country Club.  He enjoyed golfing, refinishing furniture, playing bridge.  He had wintered in Fort Myers area, Florida, the past 16 years.   He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Carol (Chris) Horne of Carmel, Indiana, and Susan (Daryl) Petry of Noblesville, Indiana; a son, John of Goshen; four grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Warstler of Elkhart, Indiana.   Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 18, at the funeral home.   An 11:30 a.m. funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastor Carl Adams of the First United Church of Christ will officiate.   Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Church of Christ Lighthouse Fund or to the Carl Reiner, Scholars for Dollars Fund at Goshen High School.
