C. Paul Byler, 80, of Goshen, Indiana passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He is welcomed into Heaven by his Savior.
Born in January 1946, in Dennison, Iowa to Carl and Mary Byler. On August 5, 1977, he married Janet Kitson, the love of his life, who survives. Together they built a life centered on family, kindness and unwavering support for those they loved.
He is also survived by two children by marriage, a son, Michael Kitson (Deb) of Broomfield, Colorado, and a daughter Paige Troyer (LaVon) of Goshen. Paul took great pride in his family and was a devoted grandfather and great grandfather. He leaves behind six granddaughters and one grandson, Amy Sheley (Craig) of Goshen, Danielle Rupp (Jason) of Westminster, Colorado, Brittany Kehr (Evan) of Goshen, Anna Kitson (Peter Nowadnick) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Dustin Bussard of Allegan, Michigan, Katherine Kitson of London, England, and Delanie Lewallen (Michael) of Middlebury, Indiana, along with six great grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by three brothers and three sisters: Joyce Slaubaugh (Maynard) of Cassopolis, Michigan, Clair Byler of Mitchell, Indiana, Evelyn Byler of Mitchell, Indiana, John Byler of Three Rivers, Michigan, Esther Stutzman (Gerald) of Shipshewana and Jim Byler (Kathy) of Goshen. Paul was preceded in death by his parents.
Paul was deeply devoted to his family, and nothing brought him more happiness than time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered for his steady presence, generous spirit, and the quiet love he showed through countless ways he supported and cared for those around him.
Paul was a proud and dedicated member of George Washington #325 Masonic Lodge of Bristol, Indiana and #12 York Rite Masonic Lodge of Goshen, where he was Past Master, along with Chapter #273 of the Order of Eastern Star of Bristol, Indiana. In recognition of his many years of commitment and service, Paul was awarded the Knight York Rite Cross of Honour and the 50 Year Award of Gold by The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Indiana. Paul was also a member of the York Rite Sovereign College where he received the Knight of York and Secret Prince designation.
Visitation will be held at Yoder Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main Street, Goshen on Wednesday, March 11 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on March 12 from 10am to 11am. A memorial service celebrating Paul’s life will take place on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 11a.m., with burial to follow at Violett Cemetery.
Memorials should be directed to Center for Hospice, Esther’s House, Elkhart, Indiana or Shriners Children Hospital.
