C Michael Sorrell

September 26, 1941 — February 16, 2007

C. Michael Sorrell, 65, of Goshen, died Friday afternoon, February 16, 2007, at Courtyard of Goshen.   He was born in New Castle, Indiana, on September 26, 1941, to Charles W. and Jama (Lowery) Sorrell.  He married Ruth Hays on August 31, 1963, in Gray Hawk, Kentucky.  She survives.   A Goshen resident since 1985, he taught and coached in the Goshen Community Schools from 1985 to 1999.  He had coached 30 years as a head basketball coach.   He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Maplecrest Country Club; Indiana Basketball Coaches Association, Goshen High School Wall of Fame, Indiana State Teachers’ Association, National Education Association, and New Castle Masonic Lodge.   Mr. Sorrell is survived by his wife, Ruth; three sons, Deron M. Sorrell of Goshen and Dr. Ryan R. (Shauna McDaniel) Sorrell and Brandon S. (Katie) Sorrell, both of Indianapolis; and a granddaughter, Hannah Sorrell.  A sister, Mida (Jim) Penticuff of New Castle; and two brothers, Daniel (Ruth) Sorrell of Newbury Park, California and Randall Sorrell of New Castle, also survive.   He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Sorrell Lee in 1992.   Friends will be received 1 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, February 20, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.   A 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2007, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Rev. Calvin Hays, brother-in-law, and Rev. Ed Fritz, First United Methodist Church, Goshen will officiate.   Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be given to the David C. and Kimberly Sorrell Lee Memorial Scholarship Fund.
