Byron E. Hollinger, 93, of Goshen, died Wednesday morning, September 2, 2009, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing where he had been a resident the last two years.  He had been in failing health the last two to three months. He was born on November 27, 1915 in Pittsburg, Ohio, to William E. and Mollie (Wandle) Hollinger.  He married Marjorie E. Heeter on February 11, 1939 in North Manchester.  She died February 20, 2007. A school teacher for 40 years, Mr. Hollinger was a member the First United Methodist Church in Springfield, Ohio.  A graduate of Manchester College, he received a master’s degree from Ohio State University.  During World War II he served with the US Army as a non-combatant conscientious objector in medical rehabilitation of wounded soldiers.  He served as a consultant for Economic Education for Secondary Schools at Ohio State University for eight years.  He started his teaching career at South Whitley, Indiana, followed by teaching and coaching in Hamilton, Cedarville, Springfield and Elyria school systems. He is survived by three daughters, Ann (Larry) Fourman of Milford, Janet (Bruce) Stine of Union Bridge, Maryland, and Rebecca (James) Horne of San Carlos, California; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Margaret Wells of Lakeland, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, Craig and Kent Hollinger; and four brothers, Emmet, Jesse, Lowell and Joe Hollinger. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the Union Center Church of the Brethren.  Pastor Tim Waits of the Rock Run Church of the Brethren will officiate.  Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be given to Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
