Bryce Jamin Gast, 41, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 3, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Bryce was born July 8, 1981, in Warsaw, Indiana. During his formative years, he lived in Akron, Indiana, he was a member of the Akron United Methodist Church, where he was baptized. He graduated from Tippecanoe Valley High School in 1999 playing tennis and baseball. He then attended and graduated from the prestigious Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 2003 where he received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. A consummate learner, he also completed his Professional Engineer license post-graduation. After his Rose-Hulman graduation, Bryce worked as an Engineer for Donohue & Associates until he transitioned to working for the City of Goshen as the City Administrative Engineer. He appreciated and greatly respected his colleagues and was eminently proud to work for the city.
Being an Engineer was Bryce’s second calling in life. His first calling? That was to be a family man.
Bryce’s life was completely and thoroughly centered around his family and daughters. He married the love of his life, Kelly Ray, on October 29, 2011, in Akron, Indiana. They lived in Goshen, Indiana, to share their lives together. For nearly 11 years, they built a life of trust, laughter, adoration, and local philanthropy. He was a hands-on dad to his two daughters, Indy and Pippa, who are both at home. Always a beaming dad with a smile on his face, he loved the fact that he was a “girl dad.” He woke his children up every morning and read stories when putting them to bed every night. He especially enjoyed discussing Harry Potter, playing games, helping with homework, and volunteering with the softball league. Perhaps his fingers fumbled when putting their hair in pigtails, but his dreams were his girl’s dreams, and he always stood by their side supporting them. Bryce will always be remembered as an avid Indianapolis Colts fan, no matter how good or how bad the season was, Bryce was fully invested in his team.
Bryce is survived by Kelly, Indy and Pippa; his parents, Mark (Kathy Griswold) Gast, Akron; sister Kyleigh (fiancée Todd Andrews) Gast, Akron; grandmother Ruth Griswold, Warsaw; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He cherished the strong bond he had with his parents and sister and never took for granted the moments to make memories and speak kindness about others.
Sadly, he was preceded in death by his infant sister, Britney Gast; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Suzanne Gast and maternal grandfather, Marshall Griswold.
Gone too soon, visitation will be held on Friday, October 7, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. The funeral service and honoring of Bryce’s life will take place on Saturday, October 8 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Goshen, with an hour of visitation prior to the service. Pastors Jared Kendall and David Eaton will officiate. Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery.
