Assistant Fire Chief Bruce A. Nethercutt, 53, of Goshen, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at home after a one-year battle with cancer.
He was born October 8, 1969 in Goshen.
On October 17, 1998, he married Deborah Potter in Mishawaka.
She survives along with his mother, Kay (Holdread) Nethercutt; three children, Brendon (Jillian) Dubberly of Fort Wayne, Jenna Nethercutt of Indianapolis and Sydney Nethercutt at home; twin grandchildren on the way, and a brother, Wayne (Julie) Nethercutt of Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Nethercutt and a sister, Lisa Kyle.
Bruce graduated from Northridge High School in 1988 and Manchester College in 1993. Bruce was with the Goshen Fire Department for 26 years, serving the last several years as EMS Chief.
A member of River Oaks Community Church, Bruce was an honorable man known for his selfless service to the community. His legacy of service, integrity and kindness lives on in his family, co-workers and Ivy Tech students he taught and mentored in their firefighter, paramedic and EMT programs.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m. at River Oaks Community Church. The family will also receive friends Monday, from 2 until the 3 p.m. funeral service at the church. Pastor Scott Tilley will officiate.
Cremation will follow the service and burial will be at a later date in Pleasant View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Firefighters Cancer Support Network or Center for Hospice Care.
