Brian Lee Schmucker

We are sad to announce the passing of Brian Lee Schmucker, 54, on January 26th after a long and courageous battle with chronic illness. He passed peacefully in the early morning at the Center for Hospice House in Elkhart, IN after weeks of being lovingly surrounded by close family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Cheryll (Cripe) and Hubert Schmucker, his brother, Andrew [Megan] Schmucker, and his only child, Brandy [Brian] Wanbaugh.

Brian called Goshen, IN his home for the majority of his life, with brief residencies in New Paris, IN, Huntington, IN, and Blissfield, MI during his childhood. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1989. He worked at Elkhart Brass for just shy of 30 years and was proud to produce essential equipment for firefighters.

Brian was hardworking, loyal, intelligent, and kind. His kindness was always balanced, of course, by his unique brand of cheeky sarcasm and wisecracks as well. He was a movie and tv show buff who held a depth of knowledge of historical, sci-fi, and superhero stories, which he also enjoyed sharing with those close to him. He loved a good hero’s journey story and we hope that, while this is the end of his story in this life, that there might be a new adventure still ahead of him. May the Force be with you.

A funeral service for Brian will be held on Saturday February 1st at 11 AM at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home in Goshen, IN with a viewing directly preceding at 9 AM. Please share photos and memories here on Brian’s Yoder-Culp Obituary Page.

Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

The family is eternally grateful to the kindness of the CHC team who cared for Brian and the family in his last week of life and hope that donations will allow other families to experience this same level of peace during these difficult times.
