Mrs. "Boodie" Mehl, 85, of Goshen, died early Monday morning, July 16, 2007, at The Maples in Goshen. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 1, 1922, to William L. and Mamie (Bevins) Hurt. She married Richard W. Mehl in Indianapolis, on May 23, 1943. He died June 15, 1991. A 1939 graduate of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, Mrs. Mehl attended Indiana University at Bloomington and University of Alabama. She was a realtor for Maple City Realty. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Thursday Morning Bible Study Class and Tri Kappa Sorority. She volunteered at Goshen General Hospital, Meals on Wheels and Aux Chandelles. She enjoyed watching golf on television and rooting for Tiger Woods, knitting, crocheting, playing bridge, genealogy and dogs. She is survived by three daughters, Rebecca (Thomas) Leatherman and Patsy (Mark) Crowder, both of Goshen, and Debbie (Ronald) Grubbs of Three Rivers, Michigan; two sons, Rick L. (Dana) Mehl and J. David (Patty) Mehl, both of Goshen; 15 grandchildlren; 19 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a sister, Bettye Jane Miller and a brother, Ted (Ruth) Hurt, both of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, Gregory Allen Leatherman in 1985; three brothers, William, Robert, and Jim Hurt; and a sister, Billie Lou Reed. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 1:00 p.m. funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, July 19, 2007. Pastors Ed and Brenda Fritz of the First United Methodist Church, Goshen, will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Gregory Allen Leatherman Scholarship Fund, New Hope Animal Rescue, ADEC or Multiple Sclerosis Society.
