Betty A. Tudor, 86, of Warsaw died Monday, March 15, 2021 at Kosciusko Community Hospital.
She was born April 14, 1934 in Indianapolis to Leland W. and Florence (Lenard) Fink.
An Elkhart High School graduate, Betty married Glendon W. Tudor in Elkhart on March 28, 1953.
He survives along with three sons, Mark Tudor of Elkhart, Jack (Cindy) Tudor of Milford and Paul (Ana Herrera) Tudor of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James, and her six siblings, Leland, Jr., Lenard, Bill, and Bob Fink, Donna Evans and Margaret Puerner.
Betty and Glendon moved to Goshen in 1962, and finished raising their three sons in Goshen. She volunteered as a youth program leader at Central Christian Church, Elkhart, where she was also a co-founder of the first after-school youth program.
For several years in the 1970s, Betty was the office manager and co-owner (with Glendon), of The News Bookstore in Goshen. She was also a member of the Goshen Tri Kappa Sorority.
Later in life, Betty earned a degree in Commercial Art from Ivy Tech, in South Bend.
Even later in life, during the several years that Betty and Glendon lived in Claremont, California, Betty again attended college. This gave her sons an opportunity to frequently remind Mom to get her homework done. And she did. She earned a bachelor’s degree, a Masters, and eventually her Doctorate in Psychology from Pitzer College in Claremont. All of this while in her 70’s.
During her internships, Betty was a school psychologist at various schools near Claremont. She was also a psychologist at a Women’s prison near Claremont, working with women who were sentenced for everything from minor infractions, to people convicted of murder. Mom had a way of reaching out to, and helping everyone, even in the worst of circumstances. Her true joy was in helping to improve children’s lives.
Betty’s sons would say that her greatest accomplishment, side by side with Glendon, was in raising her children with love and kindness, and showing them what a person can accomplish with her style of quiet determination and strength.
