On April 8, 2018 Betty Jean Muhlnickel passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Savior.
She was born in Elkhart County on May 15, 1928 to Ernest and Glada (DeFord) Busenburg. She lived her entire life in Elkhart County attending Elkhart City and Goshen City Church of the Brethren. The last 24 years she resided at Greencroft Manor IV. She married Hubert C. Muhlnickel on September 27, 1947and he preceded her in death on June 4, 1991.
Surviving are two daughters, Deb (John) Leer of Millersburg and Lora (John) Wendel of Michigan City; four grandchildren, Kelly (Troy) Rumfelt of Middlebury, Konnie (Jason) Osborne of Goshen, Joel (Jennifer) Wendel and Jenna Wendel, both of Michigan City; eight great-grandchildren, Noah Osborne, Zaryn Rumfelt, Brayden Short, Megan Osborne, Brock Short, Cydnee Rumfelt, Samuel Wendel-Suppa and Karsyn Rumfelt. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Margaret (Carmon) Cripe of Middlebury and Lee Muhlnickel of Goshen; a brother-in-law, Don (Beth) Muhlnickel, Sr. of Middlebury and loving cousins.
She was a loving mother and grandmother with a passion for teaching children in her Church of the Brethren pre-school with her best friend Sharon Bailey Mockler for 20 years. She embraced life with joy, humor and a love for music. She and her husband enriched the lives of many children being Camp Mack counselors for 10 years. She also taught Sunday school and girls’ club. She was an avid Notre Dame football fan and truly enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their various sporting events. One of her many gifts was her ability to encourage greatness in others and to appreciate their gifts in her life.
She will be greatly missed by many family and friends who loved her generous and loving spirit.
Friends may call Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Friday, April 13, 12:30 p.m. funeral service. Pastor Bev Weaver will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart.
Memorials may be given to Creekside Church of the Brethren, Goshen City Church of the Brethren or Camp Alexander Mack.
