Betty Lou Lechlitner

Betty Lou Lechlitner, 96, of Elkhart, passed away, Tuesday, August 24 at Goshen General Hospital.

She was born October 29, 1924 in New Paris to Lloyd and Ella (Smith) Hurst.

On March 30, 1946 she married Kenneth Lechlitner in Milford.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Nancy Compton of Elkhart and Barb (Chuck) Haarer of Middlebury; a son, Don (Teresa) Lechlitner of Middlebury; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and two special caregivers, Cindy Adams and Cindy Reynolds.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Ummel; a brother, Franklin Hurst; a son-in-law, Gordon Compton and a great-grandchild, Dustin Taylor.

A New Paris High School graduate, home maker and farmer’s wife, Betty was a member of little Pine Church where she taught Sunday School. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and spent 37 winters in Avon Park, Florida.

Visitation will be Friday, August 27 from 4 to 7 and Funeral Service at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 28 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, burial will follow at Violett Cemetery.
