Bettie J. Igney, 88, of Elkhart and formerly of New Paris, passed away Tuesday morning, April 14, 2015 at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart. She was born September 27, 1926 in Bluffton to Samuel and Aldine (Kipfer) Reimschisel. On September 7, 1946 she married Thurl D. Igney, Sr., in LaPorte. He died June 18, 2014. Survivors include three daughters, Laura L. Stout, and Brianna J. (Robert) Rainbolt, both of Elkhart, and Sheila K. (Jim) Brown of South Bend; two sons, Thurl (Angie) Igney Jr. of Mokena, Illinois, and Mark D. (Sue) Igney of Westfield; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Phyllis Hassur of Lawton, Michigan, and Rosemary Miller of Ossion. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Kelly Igney; a son, Samuel Igney; a great-granddaughter, Brittany Marie Douglass; and a son-in-law, Frank Stout. A graduate of South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Mrs. Igney worked for 17 years at the Goshen College Library as the periodicals coordinator. She was a member of the New Paris Thrifty Homemakers for 20 years and an active member of New Paris Church of the Brethren where she served for more than 20 years in the education department. She loved reading, music, and spending time with family. Friends may call for two hours prior to the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday, April 25 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Rev. Stan Godfrey of the New Paris Church of the Brethren will officiate. Burial will follow at New Paris Cemetery.
