Beth Ann Thompson, 53, peacefully died February 1, 2024, in Goshen at Greencroft Healthcare surrounded by family.
She was born in Troy, Ohio on May 6, 1970, to Terry G and Martha “Marti” J. (Stauffer) Thompson. She grew up in Milford. Mentally delayed from birth, Beth Ann was a kind, sunny friend to all, and often greeted new people with her favorite question “Do you have a dog or cats?” In school she participated in the Special Olympics, playing basketball, and competing in bowling events. She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1988.
Beth Ann loved music and puzzles, played the piano, and had a beloved series of cats named Butterscotch. She was happiest with her nails painted and temporary tattoos on her hands and arms. She moved out of her parents’ house at age 20 for the more independent life of a group home. There she enjoyed group events, cooking with her housemates, and being in a bowling league. For many years she was employed in the sheltered workshop at Cardinal Services, Warsaw, and later, participated in the ADEC day program in Goshen.
Beth Ann loved attending church and singing hymns, most recently the First Brethren Church, Milford, and Creekside Church of the Brethren, Elkhart. As she became less mobile and needed more care, she moved to Greencroft in Goshen in July 2021, where she made a whole group of new friends with her smile and joyful attitude.
Beth Ann is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Amy Thompson of Timonium, Maryland, and three nieces, Megan (Jaime Rayburn) Thompson of South Bend, Lauren Thompson and Alexandra Thompson, both of Timonium, Maryland. Also surviving are aunts and uncles, Carolyn and Lester Krull of Goshen, Harvey and Armida Stauffer of Granger, Joy and Bill Sauder of Churubusco, Janine Katonah of Davis, California and Roma Jo Thompson of Bridgewater, Virginia, as well as numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by both of her parents.
A memorial service will be held, Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 5 p.m. at Creekside Church of the Brethren with visitation beginning at 4 p.m.. An 11 a.m. graveside service will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Riverside Cemetery, West Milton, Ohio. Lunch at a nearby restaurant will be provided following the graveside service.
