Bessie Louise Wood

Bessie Louise Wood, 94, of Elkhart, passed away Monday morning, July 29, 2013, at Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa. She was born October 26, 1918 in Harrison Township to Nelson and Melissa Marie (Whitehead) Clipp. She married Robert Dale Wood April 16, 1941 in New Paris. He died July 25, 1970. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Sara Wood-Gibbs (James Gibbs), South Bend; a granddaughter, Michelle Kline; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Erma Drake Frye, Wakarusa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Bruce Wood, May 16, 2009. Bessie, along with her husband, was a charter member of the Concord Volunteer Fire Department. She was a member of Dunlap United Methodist Church, Elkhart Moose and Fairview Grange. An avid bowler and Cubs fan, she volunteered at Elkhart General Hospital for more than 25 years. She was passionate about traveling. Following her retirement in 1983 from the custodial staff of Concord Community Schools, she was a hostess for Dr. Rich Boling. Friends may call on Friday, August 2, 2013, from 11 until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Joe Smith, Dunlap United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart. Memorial contributions may be made to Dunlap United Methodist Church.
