Bert Allen Thompson, 78, of Wheaton, Illinois, died Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois. He was born in Bloomington, Indiana on December 13, 1930, to James Albert and Dorothy Fern (Myers) Thompson. He married Ellen P. Palmer, on February 10, 1957, at the First United Methodist Church in Goshen. She survives. He was a graduate of the Ball State Teachers College where he received his B.A., and from Indiana University where he received his Masters of Library Science. Mr. Thompson was the Director of Library Services at Kearney State in Kearney, Nebraska from 1963-1969, and the Director of Library Services at the Illinois Benedictine College/Benedictine University from 1969-1990. He was a member of LIBRAS and the Catholic Library Association. He is survived by his wife, Ellen P. Thompson of Wheaton, Illinois; two sons, John C. Thompson of Corona, California, and Paul J. (Katherine) Thompson, of West Chicago, Illinois; a daughter, Anne P. (Richard) Hayes, of Orland Park, Illinois; three granddaughters; and two great grandchildren. Friends may call 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, October, 3, at the funeral home. A 1 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009 funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Clouse will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe County (Indiana) Historical Society, 202 E.
