Bernard A. Eberhardt, 89, of 1212 Waterford Circle, Goshen, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Courtyard Healthcare, Goshen. He was born June 20, 1921 to Aloysus and Elizabeth (Gabriel) Eberhardt in Mishawaka. He moved to Goshen in 1968. He married Phyllis Gorsuch. She died Dec. 25, 1966. On March 30, 1968 he married Valerie Bittle in Goshen. She died March 30, 1996. Then on May 29, 2001 he married Dorothy Anderson. She died August 26, 2008. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Kay Norris of Warsaw; 3 step-daughters, Marsha (Larry) Berger, April (Tom) Wyatt and Sharon Garber, all of Goshen; a step-son, Thomas (Peggy) Bittle of Granger; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edwin (Cathy) Eberhardt of Mishawaka. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Maradee Gaskill and a sister, Viola Gehring. In 1938 he graduated from Central Catholic High School and then Indiana College of Mortuary Science. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked at Ashland Chemical, South Bend, as a chemist and retired in 1986 after 32 years. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church where he did volunteer work and was a 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus. Friends may call 4 to 7 pm Monday, April 18, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a Rosary Service will be held at 7 pm. A 10 a.m. funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen. Rev. Father Christopher Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen, with military honors conducted by the VFW, DAV, and the American Legion. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church.
