Bernard J. "Bernie" Yoder

Bernard J. Yoder, known to many as Bernie, passed away peacefully in the early hours of October 16, 2024, at Goshen Hospital in Goshen, Indiana. He was 82 years old.

Born on April 15, 1942, in Goshen, Indiana, Bernie had a natural talent for fixing machinery, earning a reputation as a skilled mechanic. His exceptional skills served him well throughout his career as a millwright at Bayer Laboratories in Elkhart, where he worked diligently until his retirement.

In his free time, Bernie enjoyed the great outdoors, spending countless hours fishing and hunting. His adventurous spirit also led him to the skies, where he found joy in flying his beloved ultralight aircraft.

Bernie served his country with honor in the U.S. Army for 20 years until his retirement, attaining the rank of Sergeant. As a helicopter mechanic, he specialized in the maintenance of Blackhawk and Huey helicopters, ensuring the safety and success of countless missions.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Yoder; his five children, Lori Piontek, Laura Yoder, Scott Templeton, Patricia Yoder, and Joy Clark; and his siblings, Donald Yoder, Katie Barbour, and Delilah Fisher. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Robert Yoder. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him for his steadfast dedication, remarkable talents, and kind heart.

Visitation will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. funeral service with full military honors on Monday, October 21, 2024.

The family asks that, if you wish to make a donation it be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Paralyzed Veterans of America Association.

Rest in peace, Bernie. Your legacy of service, craftsmanship, and love for adventure will never be forgotten.
