Bastian "B.G." Hoogenboom

Bastian "B.G." G. Hoogenboom, 90, of Goshen, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Greencroft Goshen Health Care. He was born November 3, 1922 in Goshen, to Leonard S. and Arlie (Elzerman) Hoogenboom. He married Lina Belle Vance June 5, 1942 in Millersburg. She survives along with two daughters, Victoria A. (Delaine "Barney") Barhydt of Millersburg and Cindy K. (Hector) Rios of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sons, Ronald B.G. Hoogenboom of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Roger K. (Susan) Hoogenboom of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Albert (Mary) and Cornelius (Shirley) Hoogenboom, both of Goshen. He was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Hoogenboom; four brothers, Arthur, Abraham, Leonard and Frederick Hoogenboom; and a grandson, Asher Ray Myers. A lifetime Goshen resident, Mr. Hoogenboom served in the Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II. He worked in construction for Maple City Construction and served as building commissioner for the City of Goshen. He was an Elkhart County deputy. A member of Goshen Greene Road Church, he was also a member of VFW Post #985 where he had served as commander and chaplain. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m., funeral service on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Dave VanderWiele, Goshen Greene Road Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Benton Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Goshen Greene Road Church.
