Bart Lefever, 77, of Elkhart, passed away Friday morning August 18th, 2023, after a brave battle with Parkinsons Disease.
He was born April 20, 1946 to Tim and Lillian Jane (Fulton) Lefever in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania.
Bart is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy (Barnhart) Lefever, whom he married on June 22, 1969 in Fort Wayne. Also surviving are three sons, Luke, (Jennifer Burke) Elkhart, Benjamin, Des Moines, Iowa, and Jed, Anderson; and a daughter, Courtney, Elkhart. Bart’s four grandchildren - Kaliah, Alex, Jekayla and Duncan- all of Elkhart were a source of great joy and pride for him. All of whom were challenged at times by grandpa to spell difficult words.
Also surviving are a sister, Willa (Bill Kaiser) Lefever, Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, and a brother Dan Lefever, Nellysford, Virginia; and three nieces, Chloe Lawrence (Orlando Campos), Elkhart, Twyla Dill, Seattle, Washington, and Celina Dill, Widby Island, Washington.
He was predeceased by his parents; his adoptive mother, Grace (Trimmer) Lefever; his brother, Evan Lefever and his sister, Nancianna.
Bart and Nancy owned and operated Lefever Plumbing & Heating for forty years. Bart was an active member North Central Indiana chapter of the Plumbing, Heating, Cooling Contractors Association, serving on the board and teaching apprenticeship classes. He nurtured dozens of plumbing apprentices over the years.
He was an active member of Southside Fellowship Mennonite Church and he served many years on the boards of Church Community Services and Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County. He played tuba with the New Horizons Senior Citizens band.
Bart was a man of integrity and a servant-leader, always ready to help with whatever was needed. He donated time, materials and advice to many churches and other non-profit organizations in the area.
The family wishes thank HolistiCare Home and ProMedica Hospice for the loving care that Bart received in his last months.

A celebration of Bart's life will be held Saturday, September 16th 2023 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of the Sermon on the Mount on the campus of Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, 3003 Benham Ave, Elkhart with visits with the family starting at 11:00am.
