Barbara Ann Thompson, 62, passed away Tuesday morning, April 28, 2009, at her home in Syracuse. She was born on October 13, 1946, in Centerville, Michigan, to Andrew Goodsell and Evelyn (Austin) Hart. Her father has preceded her in death while her mother survives, living in Bronson, Michigan. She was married to Douglas W. Thompson on August 1, 1975, in Sherwood, Michigan. Her husband survives. Barbara had lived in the area since 1988 and worked as the assistant manager of housekeeping and maintenance at Oaklawn. She had retired on March 31, 2009, and received a 20 year recognition award. She was a member of the Grace Community Church in Goshen where she was active with the Grace in Jail Ministry. She also served as assistant chaplain at the Elkhart County Jail. In her free time she enjoyed riding motorcycles and bicycles, camping, and archery. She was a fan of NASCAR with Tony Stewart being her favorite driver. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Melissa Thompson of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Sheryl (Mike) Bradshaw of North Webster, Indiana; one son, Adam (Tracy) Thompson of Syracuse, Indiana; six grandchildren; and one sister, Debra (Rick) Wohlers of Bronson, Michigan. She was preceded in death by one brother, Andrew Goodsell. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with Bob Shreiner, Coordinator of Pastoral Care at Oaklawn, and Jeremiah Olson of the Grace Community Church officiating. A cremation will follow the services. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace in Jail Ministry c/o Grace Community Church, Goshen.
