Barbara Slough, 91, of Goshen, died Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born September 4,1931 to G.E. and Myrtle (Leek) Miller in South Bend.
Following her graduation from Elkhart High School in 1949, Barbara married Leland “Lee” Slough in 1950. They were married until his death in 1986.
Lee and Barbara were among the founding partners of Arrow Tool, a tool and die/precision machining business in 1966. Barbara worked as the shop’s office manager and bookkeeper while raising their three children. She sold the business following Lee’s death and worked as the Minister of Finance and Facilities at College Mennonite Church until her retirement in 1995.
Barbara was a longtime member of College Mennonite Church. She was devoted to volunteering in the congregations where she attended, worked with the Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference, and served in the Oaklawn Auxiliary for many years. She was a member of the Goshen Healthcare Auxiliary and gave more than 8,000 hours volunteering in the hospital gift shop. She received the Goshen Health’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. She was an avid reader, prolific jigsaw puzzle solver, and a member of multiple game groups. As an active grandmother, Barbara was always present for her grandchildren’s’ concerts, graduations, and life events. She enjoyed her travels with friends and family.
She is survived by her children Rebecca (Joe Miller) and Greg (Linda Richer); grandchildren Tara (Benjamin Brookstone) and Patrick (Sara Sanders); a daughter-in-law, Jocelyne; step-granddaughter Angèle (Michael Mandle) Bernier-Mandle, and three step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was predeceased by a son, Jon; a sister, Caryl Wogoman; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Wogoman.
Yoder-Culp Funeral Home will host a visitation on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 3 to 4 p.m. On Monday, May 22, there will be a visitation from 1:00-2:15 p.m. and a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. at College Mennonite Church. She will be interred at Violett Cemetery in Goshen in a private family service.
