Barbara Jean (Pence) Leedy, 90, of Goshen passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018, at The Green House Village.
She was born in LaGrange County, Indiana, on February 24, 1928, to Alice (Klingaman) and Willie Pence.
On December 21, 1946, she married Stanley Dean Leedy, who preceded her in death. They were married for 67 years.
Barbara is survived by three daughters, Rebecca J. (Jerry) Reeves, Tybee Island, Georgia, Elizabeth A. (Steve) Pettit, Goshen, and Laury L. (Todd) Allen, Bristol; along with 9 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
A grandchild, Alexander Jacob (Laury), also preceded her in death.
Barbara lived in the Goshen area her entire life. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1946.
Barbara was a dedicated wife, mother, and “grammy.” She worked for many years at Kline’s Department Store in Goshen and as a seasonal employee for the Elkhart County Treasurer’s office. She was a very talented seamstress, making many beautiful dresses for herself and her daughters. Barbara was also an excellent Bridge player and spent many years playing in Bridge Clubs with her friends. She enjoyed playing Gin Rummy with her children and grandchildren and rarely, if ever, lost a game.
Upon Stan’s retirement in 1988, he and Barbara spent over 20 wonderful years wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama. During the rest of the year, Barbara spent many hours volunteering at Greencroft (where they resided for over 17 years), and The Window, in Goshen.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 214 S. 5th St., Goshen, on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
In Barbara’s honor, memorial offerings may be made to either The Window or the First United Methodist Church of Goshen.
