Barbara Joan Johnson

Surrounded by her family, Barbara Joan Johnson passed away peacefully at her home on May 22, 2024 at the age of 74.  Barb was born January 23, 1950, in Plymouth, Indiana to Lee and Joan Thompson. Upon her mother's death in 1952, she was adopted by her maternal uncle and his wife, David and Marjorie Norris.

She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1968 and soon after moved to Goshen, Indiana where she met and married the love of her life, Don Johnson. They were married in 1973 and were able to share 50 wonderful years together.

She was a devoted wife and mother and was blessed with three daughters, Amy (Jack) Lantz of Goshen, Cathy (Paul) Penrose of New Paris, and Connie (Mike)Troup of Goshen.  Barb worked early on as a dental hygienist, then as a bank teller and later as a warranty clerk. She enjoyed being a homemaker, where she spent her free time with the second love of her life, sewing. She sewed everything from her own wedding dress to costumes for her grandkids and so many other things.

She enjoyed going on sewing retreats with her sisters and mastering her craft. She loved to read and was known to write from time to time when the words came to her. You could also find her at many a sporting events cheering on her grandchildren. Her faith was a big part of who she was, and it gave her strength and peace through her final days.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tom Norris. She left behind many loved ones including her husband, three daughters, nine grandchildren (Brad, Jesse, Grace, Laura, Lincoln, Noah, Lynelle, Benjamin, and Carter), and seven great grandchildren, three sisters, Sharon Miesel of Maine, Katie (Ken) Jones of Indiana, Molly Milliser of Ohio, and a brother, John (Michelle) Shafer of Indiana.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 29 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. An 11 a.m. funeral service will be conducted Thursday, May 30 at People’s Bible Church, Benton.
