Barbara Jean (Sherck) Igney, 69, of Elkhart, was received into her eternal heavenly home Thursday, February 2, 2023.
She was born September 27, 1953 to Truman “Max” and Phyllis Sherck. She grew up in Middlebury and graduated from Northridge High School in 1972.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Todd (Ashley) Igney of Bristol and Troy (Shannon) Igney of St. Louis, Missouri; six awesome grandchildren, Tyse, Kayleena, Reese, Owen, Frances and Martin; and two brothers, Mike (Linda) Sherck of Davidson, North Carolina and Tom Sherck of Rancho Mirage, California. Barbara was also honored to be considered like a mother to two special young ladies, Jarena Baker of Mishawaka and Kaala Baker of Goshen. These special ladies were her daughter Kelly’s “little sisters” before Kelly passed away in 1999.
Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter Kelly Igney; her parents; stepmother, Darlene Sherck and grandparents, Truman and Viola “Old May” Sherck and Grover “Swede” and Waneda Vanette.
A member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren, Barbara retired in January 2014 from the Elkhart Clinic. Later in life she took great joy in volunteering at the Council on Aging, Elkhart.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and loved to do lunches with friends. She was involved in two women’s groups, Crazy 8’s and Generation Gap, that met monthly.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 27, at Violett Cemetery.
