Barbara Gleysteen

Barbara Gleysteen, 89, died Wednesday, June 13, at Greencroft Goshen Healthcare.

She was born Oct. 2, 1928 in Thomas, Oklahoma to Joseph and Polly (Swartzendruber) Detweiler.

On June 30, 1955 she married Jan Gleysteen in Newton, Kansas.  After their marriage they lived in Scottdale, Pennsylvania for 40 years.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Linda (Bob Boltz) Gleysteen, Aurora, Illinois; a son, David (Laura Bruno) Gleysteen, Kalamazoo, Michigan; grandchildren, Alexia (Matt Dennin) Gleysteen and Ian Boltz; a sister, Lola (Chris) Miller, Denver, Colorado; and a brother, Joe (Mary) Detweiler, Newton, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Detweiler.

Barbara was a teacher and a homemaker.  After graduating from Goshen College, she taught Home Economics and English in Kalona, Iowa and Scottdale, Pennsylvania.  She also taught English as a second language in her home.

She was a partner in TourMagination.  Her role was bookkeeper and secretary.  She served on the Board of Directors for Scottdale Federal Mennonite Credit Union.  She hosted many people from around the world in her home.  In 1995 she and Jan moved to Goshen.

Friends may call Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 2 until the 4 p.m. memorial service at The Meetinghouse at Greencroft, Goshen campus.  Chaplain John Eley will officiate.

Memorial gifts may be made to Habitat for Humanity or Mennonite Central Committee.
