Arthur Weaver, 85, of Tempe, Arizona, died Monday morning, August 31, 2009, at Hospice of the Valley Friendship Village in Tempe. He was born in Goshen on January 27, 1924, to Samuel and Laura (Johns) Weaver.  In 1946 he married Joan Yoder.  She preceded him in death.  In November 1999 he married Esther (Hartzler) Oyer.  She survives. A member of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale, Mr. Weaver  graduated from Goshen High School in 1941 and from Goshen College in 1947 with a BA degree in Economics.  He served three years in Civilian Public Service during World War II.  Following college Mr. Weaver went to work for the Food Division of American Home Products in Elkhart.  A year later the Food Division was replaced by Whitehall Laboratories Division.   Mr. Weaver served as Office Manager, Manager of the Packaging Department, Assistant Plant Manager, and finally Assistant Vice President and Plant Manager of the Elkhart facility.  He was active in community affairs in Elkhart, serving as Board member and Treasurer of the Mental Health Association, member of the Advisory Board of the First Nation Bank, Board Member of the Health Foundation of Elkhart County, Board member and Treasurer of the YMCA, Chairman of the Congregation at the Eight Street Mennonite Church in Goshen, and Secretary and Board member of the original Board that created Greencroft Retirement Center in Goshen.  He was also a member of the Exchange Club, the Rotary Club and the BPOE (Elks) in Elkhart. In 1966 Mr. Weaver was transferred to the Home Office of Whitehall Laboratories in New York City as Vice President of Operations where he continued to take on additional responsibilities until he was responsible for all functions of the Division except Trade Sales and Marketing and had earned the title of Executive Vice President of Operations.  He lived in Rye NY and joined the Rye Presbyterian Church.  During his 23 years in New York he served on various Industry-Government committees including the Press Committee which developed the standards and test methods for defining Child Safe packaging, member of the Manufacturing Controls Committee of the Proprietary Association which helped develop Good Manufacturing Practices for the Proprietary Industry and Board member and Treasurer of the Aspirin Foundation of America. Following his retirement in 1989, Mr. Weaver and his wife moved to Scottsdale and Prescott.   He became a member of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale. In retirement he was active with Vicap (Volunteer Interfaith Care Program) providing transportation to doctors and business help for shut-ins in the Valley of the Sun Area.  He also spent 10 years with the Prescott Area Habitat for Humanity serving on and chairing the Selection Committee, member of the Board of Directors for six years including one year as Board Chair and acting as Treasurer for most of the ten years. He is survived by three sons, Timothy Weaver of Wilmette, Illinois, Thomas Weaver of Arlington Heights, Illinois and Brent Weaver of Sammamish, Washington; seven grandchildren; two step-sons, Dr. Phillip Oyer of Woodside, California, Michael Oyer of Elkhart; a step-daughter, Cindy Reynolds of Elkhart; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rachel Kreider of Goshen and Eunice Regier of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Friends may call 4 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, September 3 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. An 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Eighth Street Mennonite Church, Goshen, with Pastor Kevin Farmwald officiating. Burial will be on Saturday, September 5, at 10:00 a.m., in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be given to Friendship Village or Prescott Habitat for Humanity, 1230 Willow Creek Rd., Prescott, AZ  86301.
