Arnold van Lummel, 87, of Goshen, died late Wednesday afternoon, February 4, 2009, at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born in Prospect Park, New Jersey, on September 3, 1921, to Harry John and Loretta (Vroegindewey) von Lummel. He married Marjorie Brower on May 30, 1944, in Orange City, Iowa. She died August 27, 1993. A retired minister, Mr. van Lummel pastured the Grand Avenue Reformed Church in Ashbury Park, New Jersey for over 30 years and the Clover Hills Reformed Church in Flemington, New Jersey for more than 10 years. He earned two Masters of Divinity degrees; one from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan and the second from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. He enjoyed reading and caring for his gardens. He is survived by a daughter, Celia Ann Smith of Goshen; two sons, Mark (Marie) van Lummel of Granger and Paul (Pauline) Haider of Tinton Falls, New Jersey; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Janet (William) Prommel of Hawthorne, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie. Friends may call 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, February 8, 2009, at the Green Road Church, Goshen where a 3:00 p.m. funeral service will be conducted. Pastor John Wanders will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery, Orange City, Iowa.
