Arie Kauffman

Arie Kauffman, 92, of Goshen died late Tuesday evening, September 28, 2010 at Goshen General Hospital. She was born May 17, 1918 to David and Emma (Yoder) Slabach in Kokomo.  On November 23, 1936, she married Alfred S. Kauffman in Indianapolis. He died January 8, 2000. Surviving are two daughters, Erma (Cecil) Swartzendruber of Goshen and Shirley (Ray) Lanfear of Missoula, Montana; three sons, Steve (Nila) Kauffman of Goshen, Nelson Kauffman of LaGrange, and Ron (Jane) Kauffman of Howe; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren;  a brother Edwin Slabach of Kalona, Iowa; a half brother, Marvin Slabach of Colorado; and a half sister, Martha (Ray) Yoder of Versailles, Missouri. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alma Beachy and Erma Bontrager; three brothers, Albert, Levi and Henry Slabach; a step-brother, Delbert Miller and a step-sister, Lydia Mae Hochstetter. A Goshen resident since 1934 and a homemaker, Mrs. Kauffman worked as a clerk at Harding’s in Middlebury.  She was a member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church and WMSC Sewing Circle. She volunteered at The Depot. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, October 3, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and from 9 to10 a.m., Monday at Pleasant View Mennonite Church where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Pastor Ron Diener and Pastor Tyler Hartford will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View Mennonite Church.
