Ann Elizabeth Ames

Ann Elizabeth “Betty” Ames, 86, of Goshen, died early Monday morning, April 23, 2007, at Goshen General Hospital. She was born on a farm in LaPorte County, Indiana, on January 31, 1921, to Wesley and Leila (Sharp) Norris.  On March 8, 1940, she married Kenneth C. Ames on March 8, 1940.  He preceded her on May 1, 1990.   A Goshen resident since 1997, Mrs. Ames lived in South Bend and Kendallville.  She retired in 1977 after working at Newberry’s Dime Store and Honey Crest Bakery, both in Goshen, and Sears-Roebuck in Kendallville.   A 1939 Millcreek High School graduate, she was a member of United Methodist Women.   She is survived by a daughter, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Lorna Ames Shank in 1994; a sister, Margaret Robinson; and three brothers, Joseph, Max and John Norris.   Friends will be received 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 26, at the funeral home.   An 11:30 a.m. funeral service will be conducted on Friday, April 27, 2007, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastor Rob Nelson of Grace United Methodist Church, New Paris, will officiate.   Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be given to Bashor Children’s Home or Maple City Healthcare.
