Amos L. Hostetler

Amos Lamar Hostetler, 77 of Goshen, died Sunday, October 20, 2024 at home surrounded by family.

He was born March 3, 1947 in Haven, Kansas to David and Lizzy (Bontrager) Hostetler.

When Amos was 10 years old, his family settled in Nappanee, and he continued to live in Elkhart County the rest of his life.

He was married to Carol Ferguson for 18 years and they had two daughters. He has been married to Deborah Lairson since November 2, 1991.

Debbie survives along with his children, Jennifer (Drexel) Sales of Warsaw, Lori Hostetler of Nappanee, Megan (Curtis) Griffith of Dunlap, and Jeff Hostetler; step-children, Jenny (Mike) Wise, and Christal (Mike) Linn, both of Goshen; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Weaver, Susie Nissley, and Clara Irene Hostetler; and a brother, David Hostetler, Jr.

Amos was a hard worker. He was a long distance truck driver for many years before working with Beer & Slabaugh, Nappanee as a pipe layer for 23 years. He continued driving truck for Knepp Sand & Stone, New Paris, until health issues forced him to fully retire in 2019.

He enjoyed being with family, grandchildren, and his church family. He also enjoyed listening to music, watching Western movies, being in nature gardening and birdwatching.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 23, from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, also at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Bethel Mennonite Cemetery, Nappanee.
