Alvin E. Miller

Alvin E. Miller, 82, of New Paris, died at his home on Sunday evening, December 4, 2005.  He had been in declining health for several years.   He was born in Middlebury, Indiana, on December 13, 1922, to Harvey and Amanda (Miller) Miller.  On June 9, 1946, he married Esther Swarzentruber.  She died January 1, 1957.  He then married Elva Zook on August 3, 1957, in Goshen.  She survives.   Mr. Miller owned Amazing Motors which was located at various times in Middlebury, Milford and New Paris.  He had also worked at Miller’s garage in Middlebury.   In February 1989 he and his wife started Jubilee Missions which supported children and families in Haiti.  He was superintendent of many Bible schools at Salem Mennonite.  He was a member of Milford Chapel.   He is survived by his wife, Elva, a daughter, Nancy (Floyd) Bontrager of New Paris, Indiana; three sons, Eldon (Audrey) Miller of Nappanee, Keith Miller of Lansing, Michigan, and Ken (Sarie) Miller of New Paris, Indiana; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by four sisters, Ruby Cross of Dover, Delaware, Mary (Harvey) Miller of Wickenburg, Arizona, Velma (LeRoy) Schrock of Goshen and Esther Rogers of Middlebury, Indiana; and a brother, Vernon (Barbara) Miller of Middlebury, Indiana.   He was preceded in death by his first wife, a grandson, Kevin Miller and two sisters, Leanna Miller and Arlene Miller.   Friends may call 6 to 8 pm, Tuesday, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, Wednesday, December 7, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Friends may also call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.   A 10:00 am service will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2005, at Salem Mennonite Church, 23984 CR 46, New Paris.  Pastor Wayne Chupp of Milford Chapel and Rev. Terrill Yoder of Salem Mennonite Church will officiate.   Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, New Paris.   Memorial contributions may be made to Haiti through Water for Life.
