Alvin W. Hershberger

Alvin W. Hershberger, 92, formerly of Middlebury, died Monday evening, November 19, 2007, at Courtyard Healthcare in Goshen. He was born July 6, 1915, in Middlebury, to Milo and Minnie (Miller) Hershberger.  He married Oma Kalb on May 5, 1940, in Goshen at the Silverstreet Mennonite Church, Goshen.  She survives. A lifelong Middlebury resident, Mr. Hershberger retired in 1982 from Starcraft Boat after 46 years where he was plant manager and in charge of the stock room. A 1934 graduate of Middlebury High School, he served on both the Middlebury and Northridge school boards. He was a member of the Silverwood Mennonite Church which he helped build. He is survived by his wife, Oma; two daughters, Julia (Joe) Schrock and Connie (Ernie) Knepp, both of Middlebury; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Lee Hershberger in 1949. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 23, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2007, funeral service will be conducted at Silverwood Mennonite Church, Goshen.  Rev. Ken Bontreger will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Middlebury. Memorial contributions may be made to Silverwood Mennonite Church
