Alton "Leo" Smith

December 24, 1933 — June 7, 2017

Alton “Leo” Smith, 83, of Goshen, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at The Maples at Waterford Crossing.

He was born December 24, 1933 in Albertville, Alabama to Alton and Lula Bell (Stewart) Smith.

On December 22, 1956 he married Wilma J. McGriff in Dutton, Alabama.  She died December 25, 2014.

Survivors include two sons, Ric A. (Cynthia) Smith of Muscatine, Iowa and G. Stuart (Beth) Smith of Warsaw; four grandchildren, Jason (Taylor) Hendrix of New Paris, Justin (Tara) Smith of Pierceton, Hannah (Dave) Braasch of Fridley, Minnesota, and Emma (Rick) Stammer of Des Moines, Iowa; and six great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and his wife, Leo was preceded in death by three sisters, Billie Jo Smith, Elizabeth Jane Smith, and Thelma Dean Smith.

Leo was a member of First Baptist Church, Goshen, and worked as a plant manager at Goshen Rubber.

Friends may call Monday, June 12, 2017, beginning at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Goshen where an 11 a.m. memorial service will be conducted.  Rev. Dr. Greggory Lanzen, Rev. Jim Shrock, and Leo’s grandson, Justin Smith will officiate.

According to his wishes, burial of cremated remain will take place at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Fyffe, Alabama, at a later time.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the church Deacon’s Fund.
