Alpha B. Miller

Alpha B. Miller, 98, of Goshen, died Tuesday morning, May 25, 2010, at Goshen General Hospital where she had been a patient since May 15. She was born in Shipshewana on September 22, 1911, to the late Mose and Mary (Troyer) Yoder.  She married Roy R. Birkey September 23, 1934, in Middlebury.  He died September 18, 1936.  She married David M. Miller October 28, 1937 in Middlebury.  He died February 27, 2000. A 1929 graduate of Middlebury High School, Mrs. Miller worked as a secretary for Pine Manor, Elkhart Packing, Dr. Dana Troyer and Goshen College Library. She attended Goshen College 1954-55. She is survived by a daughter, Carol (Larry) Beachy of Goshen; three grandchildren, Bradley (Susan) Beachy of Wichita, Kansas, Michael (Catherine) Beachy of Goshen, and Christine (Dean) Wentz of Edwardsburg, Michigan; five great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Bender on June 3, 1999. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 28, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2010, at The Gathering Place, 1300 Greencroft Drive, Goshen.  Pastor Rosemary Widmer  of College Mennonite Church will officiate. A private burial will be in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Care at Home Hospice or College Mennonite Church.
