Allen Ray Troyer

Allen R. Troyer, 64, of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly at his home Wednesday evening, November 13, 2013. He was born July 19, 1949 in Elkhart to Alfred and Anna Mae (Stutzman) Troyer. On December 20, 1980 he married Joan Estrup in Elkhart. She survives along with two children, Jessica (Bob) Kogelschatz of Bristol and Andrew Troyer of South Bend; two grandchildren, Austin Troyer and Nicholas Kogelschatz; his mother, Anna Mae Troyer of Goshen; a sister, Pat (Dennis) Weaver of Goshen and a brother, Randy (Candy) Troyer of Middlebury. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Troyer. Allen graduated from Bethany Christian High School in 1967 and Hesston College in 1969. He was a pilot for the University of Notre Dame since January 2002. An exceptional pilot, he was offered two different positions at a recent NBAA (National Business Aircraft Association) convention. Allen was a band Dad at Concord High School from 1997 to 2004 while his children were involved and continued to volunteer with the band until 2012. He was a kind and generous man and loved by many. Allen was a 20 year charter member of the New York Central Railroad Museum, Elkhart. He enjoyed farming and sailing on Lake Michigan out of South Haven, Michigan. Friends may call 1 to 6 p.m., Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. A 10 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2013, funeral service will be held at Belmont Mennonite Church, 925 Oxford Street, Elkhart. Following the meal, burial will be at Olive West Cemetery, Elkhart. Memorial contributions may be given to Water for Life, Haiti.
