Allen Anthony Lower, Sr., 92, of Goshen, died early Thursday afternoon, March 20, 2008, at Goshen General Hospital. He was born on December 25, 1915 in Millersburg, Indiana, to Frank and Lula Mae (Long) Lower. He married Marie Belle Stump on November 10, 1934. She died July 14, 1979. In May 1980 he married Evelyn Patton. She died in 1987. Then on August 6, 1988 he married Maude Moland Penrose in Goshen. She survives. A lifelong area resident, Mr. Lower worked at Western Rubber Company as a supervisor retiring after 42 years. A 1934 Goshen High School graduate, Mr. Lower is the last known charter member of the New Paris Church of the Nazarene where he was very active. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He is survived by his wife, Maude; two daughters, Lula Belle “Lu” (Wayne) Hartman, Sr. and Donna (Stephen) Ellis; two sons, Larry Lewis (Mary Jane) Lower and William Duane Lower, all of Goshen; a step-daughter, Shirley (Daniel) Farr of Bourbonnais, Illinois; a step-son, Ray William (Sharon) Penrose of Goshen; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie; his second wife, Evelyn; a son, Allen A. Lower, Jr.; a sister, Hilda Smith; two brothers, Franklin Lower and Kenneth Theron Landaw; and two grandsons, Timothy and Michael Lower. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, March 22, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. A Monday, March 24, 2008, funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Donald Meiner of the New Paris Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Burial will be in New Paris Cemetery, New Paris. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Paris Church of the Nazarene or to the Benton Township and Syracuse Fire Departments.
