Allen C. Conrad, 86, of Goshen, died Sunday afternoon, March 4, 2007, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing, where he was admitted three days ago. He was born June 3, 1920, in Goshen, to Charles and Josie (Blake) Conrad. He married Margaret Ann Baker on May 7, 1944. She survives. A lifetime resident of the area, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkhart and the Joint Heirs ABF Sunday School class. A 1940 graduate of Millersburg High School, he served with the U.S. Air Force in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked as a railway postal clerk for the New York Central Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1974. He and his wife spent 27 winters in Fort Myers, Florida. Mr. Conrad is survived by his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Margo (Richard) Barfell of Elkhart; two sons, Don (Diane) Conrad of Trout Lake, Michigan and Thomas (Nancy) Conrad of Goshen; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernice Berger of Goshen. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Olive Conrad, Marie VanNess and Ruth Bickel and two brothers, Arthur and Grover Conrad. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, at the funeral home. A 10:00 a.m. funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, March 8, 2007, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. John Blodgett of the First Baptist Church of Elkhart will officiate. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery, Millersburg. Memorial contributions may be given to Elkhart Christian Academy.
