Alice W. (Lattimore) "Gypsy" Travis, 71, of Goshen, Indiana, passed away at her home Thursday afternoon, January 16, 2014, after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was born December 5, 1942 in Rutherfordton County, North Carolina, to Worth S. Lattimore and Alice E. (Lynch) Lattimore Hampton. She was a 1960 graduate of R-S Central High School in Rutherford Co., N.C. "Gypsy" was a noted author and was acclaimed for her work as a stand-up comedian. In her younger years, much of her spare time was dedicated to organizations dealing with down syndrome and other special needs people. Originally from North Carolina, she spent the last years of her life in Goshen with her beloved companion, Mike Burk. He survives along with two daughters, Melanie Simone (Goforth) Campbell, of Cleveland, N.C., and Katrina Yvonne (Hardin) Steele, of Norfolk, Va.; three grandchildren, Joseph J. D'Agostino, of Cleveland, N.C., Daniel R. and Gypsy Y. Steele, of Norfolk, Va.; and two brothers, William Lattimore, of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Dave Lattimore, of Baker, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter, Eprielle Yvette "Pooh" Hardin, who died January 16, 1991. According to "Gypsy's" wishes cremation has taken place at Yoder-Culp Crematory, Goshen.
