Alex Sorokin

Alex Sorokin, 64, of Goshen, died at his home Sunday afternoon, June 29, 2014, after battling cancer for a year. He was born July 6, 1949 in Munich, Germany to Ivan and Notburga (Porthorn) Sorokin. On Feb. 18, 1972 he married Deborah Stacker in Elkhart. She survives along with a son, Alan Sorokin, New Whiteland. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Helmut "Jim" Sorokin. He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1968. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkhart, and the National Rifle Association. He served with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam from 1968 to 1971. Friends may call an hour before the 11 a.m. memorial service on Thurs. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 30888 C.R. 6, Elkhart. Pastor Spencer Mielke and Rev. Ted Stanley will officiate. In keeping with his wishes cremation will take place and burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, Goshen Center for Cancer Care or Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
