Agnes Lucille Cripe, 92, of Goshen, died Wednesday morning, February 6, 2008 at Greencroft Healthcare. She was born in Goshen on April 11, 1915, to the late Henry H. and Mary (DeFreese) Cripe. A lifetime member of Eighth Street Mennonite Church, Miss Cripe graduated from Goshen College in 1937 and went on to get her Master’s degree from Manchester College. She was a shareholder and coporate secretary for Independent Protection Company and Turtle Top from 1934 to 1991. She retired from teaching in 1956. She taught math at both Millersburg High School and New Paris High School, where she was head of the Mathematics Department. She also served as librarian at New Paris High School. She was very active in the Business Professional Women and a longtime supporter of ADEC where she received the “Outstanding Kindness Award” in 2000 for her many years of support and service. Miss Cripe enjoyed playing the organ, doing needlepoint, and playing card and board games. She is survived by two nephews, Robert (Betty) Cripe of Goshen and Dick (Carolyn) Cripe of Syracuse. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Earnest C. and Forrest G. Cripe. A private graveside service will be held in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Eighth Street Mennonite Church. Rev. Kevin Farmwald of Eighth Street Mennonite Church and grandnephew, Rev. Doug Cripe of the Disciples of Christ Church in Bellville, Illinois, will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to ADEC or Eighth Street Mennonite Church.
