Aden J. Yoder

Rev. Aden J. Yoder, 97, of Goshen, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Greencroft Healthcare.

He was born April 19, 1925 in Kokomo to Jacob and Lovina (Helmuth) Yoder.

On June 23, 1950, he married Helen J. Kandel in Millersburg, Ohio.

In March 1953 he was ordained as a pastor in the Mennonite Church.  He pastored churches in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois for 35 years.  He also served as secretary of the Ohio Mennonite Conference for several years and on the Goshen College Board of Overseers for ten years.  After his retirement, he worked in College Relations for Goshen College.

He had three years of college before he married and always said he was going to graduate from Goshen College before he turned 50.  In the fall of 1974, he moved the family to Goshen and became a college student while his wife worked in the Greencroft kitchen.  His oldest daughter was married, and his oldest son was a freshman at Hesston College.  In the spring of 1975, one day before his 50 ^th birthday, Aden graduated from Goshen College.

He and Helen were blessed with four children, Cheryl (Art) Neuenschwanderof Orville, Ohio, Steve (Randa Moyers Hendricks) Yoder of Broadway, Virginia, Twila (Dean) Eshleman of Middlebury, and Tim (Jane Grove) Yoder of Goshen; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam, John and Clarence and three sisters, Tillie Nauraine, Elizabeth Yoder and Ann Showalter.

Aden enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing and a good game of Rook.  He could fix or build just about anything.  Aden’s wit, charm, patience, kindness, foresight and humility truly defined him as the person he was.

Visitation will be Friday, April 14, 2023, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Clinton Frame Church, where he was a member.  An 11 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 2023, memorial service will be conducted at the church with grandson, Pastor Matt Yoder, officiating.

A private graveside service and burial will be at Clinton Frame Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Goshen College.
