Adelia May Yoder, 85, of Goshen, died early Wednesday morning, December 20, 2006, at Goshen General Hospital where she had been a patient for two days. She was born in Sawyer, Michigan, on August 15, 1921, to Floyd and Belle (Dunham) Wortinger. In 1940 she married Edward E. Slater, Sr. He was killed in action in May 1945 in the Pacific Theater. In 1947 she married Clarence J. Metzger. He died July 22, 1972. In 1977 she married Ebert Yoder. He died December 16, 2000. A Goshen resident for over 80 years, Mrs. Yoder worked at the Chase Bag Factory for 43 years. She also worked at Gohn’s Jewelry Store and Newell’s Clothing Store in Goshen. A member of the Plymouth United Church of Christ, she enjoyed fresh water fishing in local lakes and sewing quilts. She is survived is two sons, Edward E. (Jean) Slater and Ronald Eugene Metzger, both of Goshen; a step-daughter, Sharron Faye Workman of Kansas City, Kansas; and three step-sons, Steve (Anita) Yoder of Fishers, Indiana, Mike (Debbie) Yoder of Puyallup, Washington, and David Yoder of Bellevue, Washington. Also surviving are four grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred DeWitt of Park Ridge, Illinois and a brother, Floyd (Mabel) Wortinger, Jr. of Goshen. She was preceded in death by a step-son, Stanley Yoder and a sister, Edna Jean Craig. A memorial service is being planned.
