Adele G. McIntosh, 87, of Goshen, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, September 10, 2014 at IU Health Goshen Hospital with her daughters at her side. She was born January 12, 1927 in Burnaby, BC, Canada to Marvin Herbert and Susie Irene (Balkwill) Birkinshaw. On February 17, 1947, she married Bryce Glen McIntosh in Bellingham, Washington. He died September 6, 2008. Survivors include two daughters, Julia (Daniel) Datish, of Cortland, Ohio and Sue (Kim) Wilfong, of Goshen; two sons, Bruce McIntosh, of Chaska, Minnosota and Gregg (Nancy) McIntosh, of Wawaka, Indiana; five grandchildren, Heather, Nadia, Lena, Stuart and Danielle; five step-grandchildren, Jamie (Melvin), Carrie (Doug), Cindy, Pam, and Kelly (Bill); two step-great grandchildren and a sister, Marie Stranks, of Toronto, Ontario. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Mrs. McIntosh graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in English Literature. In 1973, Glen and Adele purchased Kauffman Greenhouse, Goshen and operated it as McIntosh Greenhouse and Garden Center until their retirement in 1990. She instilled in her family a strong work ethic and the importance of taking care of the customers. She was a past president of the Indiana Flower Growers Association. More recently, she served on several committees for the Goshen Greencroft campus and Manor IV and was known for her beautiful display of flowers on her patio. Friends may call on Monday, September 15, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m., with a service immediately following at 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. A memorial service for Greencroft friends and staff will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the Meetinghouse at Greencroft. Greencroft Chaplain, Vanette Kashmir, will officiate. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory. A private burial will be at Violett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Greencroft Manor IV Landscape Beautification.
